چکیده

This paper presents a new method for endocardial (inner) and epicardial (outer) contour estimation from sequences of echocardiographic images. The framework herein introduced is ne-tuned for parasternal short axis views at the papillary muscle level. The underlying model is probabilistic; it captures the relevant features of the image generation physical mechanisms and of the heart morphology. Contour sequences are assumed two-dimensional noncausal rst order Markov random processes; each variable has a spatial index and a temporal index. The image pixels are modelled as Rayleigh distributed random variables with means depending on their positions (inside endocardium, between endocardium and pericardium, or outside pericardium). The complete probabilistic model is built under the Bayesian framework. As estimation criterion the maximum a posteriori (MAP) is adopted. To solve the optimization problem one is led to (joint estimation of contours and distributions' parameters), we introduce an algorithm herein named iterative multigrid dynamic programming (IMDP). It is a fully data driven scheme with no ad-hoc parameters. The method is implemented on an ordinary workstation, leading to computation times compatible with operational use. Experiments with simulated and real images are presented.

Monitoring Pipe-Wall Corrosion Rate by Ultrasonic Technique

thickness and corrosion/erosion rate. In this thesis, a combination of signal processing techniques are used to estimate the corrosion rate estimates based on MBE. Corrosion rate is estimated based on ultrasonic pipe wall thickness data is collected over a short period of time using MBE model. This technique is based on data collected from the speedometer applied for thinning and both indicate ...

Deformable Templates for Plaque Thickness Estimation of Intravascular Ultrasound Sequences∗

Deformable Template models are first applied to estimate the wall of coronary arteries in intravascular ultrasound sequences. Two circular templates (inner and outer) are used to localise and track an image zone that contains the atheroma plaque. Moreover robust wall thickness estimations are derived from this analysis.

Parasitic Effect of Tube Wall Longitudinal Heat Conduction on Cryogenic Gas Temperature

Longitudinal heat conduction is an important parameter in the cryogenic field, especially in cryogenic heat exchangers. In the present work, the parasitic effect of tube wall longitudinal heat conduction on temperature measurement has been studied in cryogenic laminar hydrogen flow. The effects of various parameters such as wall cold end temperature, wall thermal conductivity, gas volumetric fl...

Application of Model-Based Estimation to Time-Delay Estimation of Ultrasonic Testing Signals

Time-Delay-Estimation (TDE) has been a topic of interest in many applications in the past few decades. The emphasis of this work is on the application of model-based estimation (MBE) for TDE of ultrasonic signals used in ultrasonic thickness gaging. Ultrasonic thickness gaging is based on precise measurement of the time difference between successive echoes which reflect back from the back wall ...

Assessing the intima-media thickness and Young modulus changes of the common carotid artery in the neck region external radiotherapy based on the processing of ultrasonic images

Since it is too vital to the prevention of carotid disease in the vascular system, it seems necessary to the estimation of the elastic behavior of the carotid artery in head and neck external radiotherapy. In the present study, a total of 24 neck carcinoma patients treated with external radiotherapy had been studied. The carotid mean dose values were determined for each case by contouring the c...

Effect of seismic sequences on fragility of Iranian code-conforming shear wall RC buildings

Background and objective: Estimating the vulnerability rate of urban textures in seismic incident following a major earthquake (aftershocks) is crucial in decision making and crisis management. For this purpose, it is necessary to calculate the vulnerability of buildings due to the successive incidents and to use them in the vulnerability estimation for probable future aftershocks. Seismic frag...
